Little Morticia

Etsy Listing

You may view her FLICKR Slideshow here for more pictures.

Ghost Bride has a friend. When I finished Little Morticia, I placed her on the display table next to Ghost Bride and they immediately starting chatting! They became best friends! How cute. They are side by side where they will stay until they acquire new owner(s).

Little Morticia is approximately 6" tall and she is a full sculpture. I was striving for a more whimsical piece with her. I think I captured that as she makes me laugh and say cutesy words and stuff. LOL.

She is another Halloween holiday piece, however, I think she can be very much treasured all year round. I love looking at her.

It is really interesting when working on a whimsical piece and the faces. When they are unpainted it is sometimes difficult to tell how they will look painted. Since I am trying my skill set on some more whimsical looking dolls, I am finding it a challenge to know when the face is 'just right' in that unpainted stage. They look really funny and sometimes alien-like. I like making big foreheads, big eyes, and even a large egg shaped head as I think that also lends to the whole whimsical aspects.

She will be listed in my Etsy shop September 24 at approximately 4pm EST.

Ghost Bride

Etsy Listing

My little Ghost Bride is finally finished. What a treasure she is and I really enjoyed her path to creation. She spoke volumes to me from the start and the end result is she is so cute. She is sort of sad looking but at the same time saying "hey, I am a beautiful bride even with my creepy blackened eyes". She makes me smile and chuckle when I walk past her while she sits so pretty on my display table.

She is a full sculpture doll and her dress is sculptured clay and then fabrics added over the painted clay.

Her hair is silver mohair and she wears a beautiful white veil.

I love the theme of creepy with innocence, hence, she is carrying pink roses on her creepy wedding day. :-)

She will be listed in my Etsy shop on September 22nd at approximately 4:00pm.

Mixed Media Painting Hippy Girl Love Theme

This is my second mixed media painting of a Petite Doll and she is a cute little Hippy Girl. I admit I have always had a little 'hippy' in me and I just love this theme. When I chose this theme I knew it bring about out some great feelings inside me. I just love her and she makes me smile. My intention and thoughts during her creation were whole hearted easy and fun love!

She is sealed and finished with a coating of beeswax. There are areas where there is no beeswax so that lots of beautiful texture can be seen and felt. The bottom of her pants have beautiful little flowers and her hair is adorned with lots of textures and color.

Next up is a Marie Antoinette Mixed Media Painting, however, that is after I complete a few more creepy Halloween doll sculptures.

Halloween Witch "Skull Sweeper"

Skull Sweeper Witch is for sale in my Etsy Shop

Boy I just love this time of year. I can't stop thinking about all the spooky things like, vampires, bats, ghosts, and my favorite ... witches. I stopped in two Halloween stores today and loved all the great spooky stuff and I always laugh when I look at the display area with all the crooked teeth. Lots of fun!

After finishing my witch head on the bottle I realized I really wanted to sculpt a complete Witch doll. I decided a soft sculpture witch so that she has some posability with her limbs ... and for flying on her broom ;-)

ohhhh my how she is cleaning up her little witchy mess of skulls that lay beneath her.

She has on a beautiful pair of sculpted black witch boots with purple metallic buckles! They are fabulous shoes for a witch!

She was built using a 6" high armature meaning the doll itself is approximately 6", however, with her hat and base, she stands approximately 7 1/2-8" tall.

I just love Halloween!! I laughed when I was working on her, because every time I looked at her my nose would crinkle up and my brow would furrow - I found I was subconsciously mimicking her facial expression during her creation. LOL

Petite Doll Mixed Media Painting

I am so proud to present my first mixed media painting. I recently joined the Suzi Blu Les Petite Academy and learned a beautiful mixed media style that I just love. Suzi is a great instructor and I really enjoyed her class. The world needs more Suzi's as her method and style are just so happy and cheerful and she is filled with such love and joy as a person and with her artwork. I am proud to be a part of her classes and meeting so many wonderful artists.

This was the most amazing class to take and I really enjoyed the journey into the mixed media art form. A long time ago I was more of a painter and this class allowed me to revisit that art form.

My Butterfly Petite Doll is available for purchase in my Etsy Shop.

I have added a new section in my Etsy Shop for mixed media paintings as I plan to do many more of these!

The Bewitching Season

Well, it is almost that time and I can feel it in the air. The skies are once again more gray than blue here in NJ (at least so far). Sometimes we have beautiful September and October weather making it like an extended summer, however, I have doubts about this season. So with not much sunshine what better thing to do than sit at my art table and create some appropriate holiday sculptures.

The stores have the fall items stocked and I already feel that ghostly ghoulish mood coming on. Each year I seem to miss the window of opportunity to make Halloween sculptures. This year I vowed not to not miss it!

With many distractions of 'life' lately and all sorts of indoor house projects I am going to somehow manage to get a few fun Halloween pieces done this year!

I have always wanted to do witches. They can be creepy and ugly or pretty and fun witches. I chose the creepy ugly witch theme because I just love to sculpt wart covered noses and gnarly knuckled fingers!

Here is my first Halloween sculpture. Her head and neck are sculpted and then I secured her to a purple frosted bottle.

I really enjoy doing the witch face -- there is so much you can do to a witch face with warty noses, creepy sunken in faces, lips that pucker in from not having teeth. The ideas are endless. I happen to like witches with green faces too.

After completing her I decided I would like to do a complete sculpture of a witch. So that is what I am working on as I write this blog post. She will be a soft sculpture witch with the ability to be posed. Oooo, so much fun. I can't wait to do her outfit! And perhaps a witches cauldron too!

Trick or treat time is coming up fast!! I must get back to my art table to turn out more spooky seasonal sculptures!

A Busy September for me

Well, I have slightly put away my ATC cards however, I do one or two a day. When my sculptures are baking I reach for a card and draw. After all, us artists have to fill up every minute of our time with art. LOL.

Art Class with Suzi Blu. I have just signed up for an online class with Suzi Blu. What a fabulous artist and her artwork is so cheery and fun.

I met another artist in my ATC trading forum and that is how I found Suzi Blu. I am taking the "Les Petite Doll" class. Which is a mixed media class and the dolls are sooooo cute! I think these lessons will also add to my sculpting and I always learn so much from art classes that are not necessarily sculpting classes.

I have so far watched the first two online videos and am so excited to learn from her. She makes teaching so much fun and what a crazy and fun girl! She makes me laugh and her work make me smile. So far her classroom material is perfect and very professional and filled with great knowledge that she is so generous to share! It was worth every penny and more for this class. I just know I will want to take more of her classes after this one.

What I will learn in the Suzi Blu class and the ATC's work perfectly for me right now. The beginning of September is very busy. Getting my daughter back to school and then I am going to be displaced for a couple days in mid September for work that is being done inside the house. It will be great to take my sketch book, and some mixed media supplies to a different spot in my home and still be able to get some artwork done without feeling lost and away from all my sculpting supplies and the ovens, etc.

I love portable art. Which is another reason I took the mixed media class and began working with ATCs. As bad as it sounds I usually do not like to travel or be away from home. Why? Because I hate to leave my sculpting art behind (truly an art addiction yes I know it's insane).

The ATC's and the drawing can easily be ported to my travel locations and I can still get my fulfillment (or addiction) of my art. :-) Colored pencils, markers, water colors, and my sketch book are so easy to take along anywhere and can surely make a plane ride go fast!

... And MORE TRAINING. In October I am getting on a plane and traveling to a sculpting class with Patricia Rose. I can't tell you how excited I am to take this class. The class is on sculpting faces and it is two day class (I will be gone for 4 days). I hope to come home from that seminar with many new skills to make pretty dolls. Patricia Rose is an amazing artist and I have always admired her style and her skills and I hear she is a fabulous teacher.

Meanwhile, when I can fit it in, I am sculpting some babies. I just added two ooak mini babies to my Etsy Shop, so be sure to stop by and check them out. They are two cuties. Little Sam and little baby Sierra. I have another one in the works that is a real cutie.

And if this isn't enough to keep me busy I have just got to get some Halloween artwork started. I always seem to miss that window of opportunity as this time of year gets hectic for me. So hope to get started on maybe another creepy sculpture, perhaps a witch spirit doll. Ohhhhh the ideas that I have and just wish I had more time in my day.
