Summer is finally winding down

My life has been a bit busy in August. We have been finishing up some house projects as well as getting ready for my daughter to return back to her second year of college. Bittersweet it will be. As much as I love having her here and will miss her greatly when she returns, I do feel anxious for a few things to return to normal.

Which is .... a quiet house, a clean bathroom, and food and beverages that stay in the refrigerator for more than a day. Only one more week and this will be the scenario. I can then hopefully relax and focus on my artwork again.

Since my home life has been so busy and I did not have energy (nor the time) for too much of my sculpting projects. As mentioned in my prior post, I decided to fill in what small bits of time I did have in the world of ATCs.

Some of my trades have already started to come to my mailbox. When I received my first few cards in the mail it was very exciting to hold another person's artwork and see their intention, thoughts, and creativity expressed on such a small work space of 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 size. They are like little miniature masterpieces. I cherish each one that I have received so far. I plan to get some ATC sleeves so that I can store my beautiful collection of traded cards.

Wow, what fun! Here is my ATC business card which gets sent out with each of my traded cards.

I have had paints, markers, inks, stamps and stamping pads, embossing powders, heat guns, oil pastels, water colors, pencils, and lots more stuff all over my art table!!

Everyday was a new experiment or technique to see what I liked. I created all sorts of cards using as many different techniques as my supplies could offer. From sweet to spooky.

I did some collage, mixed media, abstracts, plants and trees, and some illustration and drawings. This piece was actually made for Mom for her birthday (along with some other goodies I sent her). It is a photo of her as a baby with her Dad. The old family photos are certainly fun to incorporate into the cards.

I wanted to try it all! My art table looked like a hurricane of art supplies. I was trying not to stress that my clay was buried under all these new and different supplies that were suddenly everywhere. However, I had to relax, and not worry. The clay will just have to wait. So for two weeks I just let my creative instincts do whatever felt good at the moment.

So after trying many different types of cards, textures, glues, paints, and fixatives, I came to realize what I enjoyed the most. Drawing and illustrations and my favorite medium was watercolors.

Each day I will attempt at least one card to make sure I keep learning and participating in the forum and have ongoing successful trades. Eventually I would like to join a forum for trades that is geared more towards hand-drawn illustrations and paintings.

You may visit my Flickr Photostream to view all my cards so far.

So here I am, two weeks later, having thoroughly enjoyed my creative excursion with the ATC's. I have cleaned up the hurricane mess of art supplies. They are all neatly put away in there designated locations in my art room.

.........and what did I find after cleaning up my mess?!! I found my Prosculpt clay! YEAH! It is still here and it is ready for me! I am now ready to get back to my sculpting and the clay.

The little clay babies are calling to me, along with more spirit dolls and fairies and who knows what else! Halloween is also coming up soon and I want to start some fun holiday pieces. So much to do and never enough time to get it all done.

What am I up to now?

*BIG SIGH*. Ahhhh, the summer is winding down and it is almost end of August and I am feeling very lazy with this summer heat lately.

August has been hot and working with the clay has surely been a challenge. I finally gave in and decided I was just simply in need of a break from the clay. So what to do with the extra time away from clay???? I still want to keep in my creative mood.

I have started doing some artwork in the form of what is called "Artist Trading Cards". For those that are not familiar, an Artist Trading Card (ATC) can encompass all types of media. Paper, fabric, metal, anything you desire. They can be photos, prints, water color, collages, doodles, and many other type of mixed medias. The format for this art form is a 2 1/2 X 3 1/2 (6cm x 9cm) card. ATC's are not sold and instead are traded with other artists around the world. They are miniature works of art!

I have only made a few cards so far and have really enjoyed the challenge of getting real creative on a small amount of space. And WOW! I just love using all these wonderful mediums like paints, markers, gel medium and glazes, inks, stamps, embossing, and all sorts of fun stuff!

View my Slide Show to see the cards I have made.

I am available for personal trades and you may contact me through my blog, facebook, or my website to arrange for personal one-on-one trades.

My cards can also be found at ATCs for All. I hope you enjoy my cards! I am really enjoying the break from the clay and just letting my creative soul take me where ever it can in this art form. No pressure, no big project, no fighting the clay in the heat. Just letting myself relax and enjoy some simple art for a couple weeks.

I plan to get back to my sculpting in a couple weeks as I do feel the clay calling me back. I have spirit dolls to make, babies, and fairies that are on my mind! But for now, I am having fun just letting my artwork flow freely with these ATCs!

Baby Mermaid "Alaina"

Here is tiny little baby mermaid. I named her Alaina. This little cutie is only about 4". After completing Sailor's Dream I had the desire to do a baby mermaid. I will most likely do a few more of these. Still trying to 'bulk up' my mermaid gallery at my website. Mermaids are so much fun and I love the fantasy aspect of them.

She comes with her little display. It is thick tan wool over a form and then fisherman craft netting over top so that wonderful sea treasures can be tucked inside -- sea shells, starfish, sea glass, or any other sea treasures you desire!

Her legs are painted in blues and purples and her tail is sculpted of clay.

Look for her in my Etsy Shop soon!

It has been a long long time since I have created a mermaid sculpture. I had only made a few mermaids when I first started sculpting. I noticed my gallery at my website for the mermaids was looking pretty neglected. So I had the desire to start doing mermaids again.

She is so peacefully sleeping and I am really pleased with how she turned out considering the length of time that had gone by not having created any mermaids. Her colors are a beautiful pale peachy color with lots of shimmers on her legs and tail. Her top is silk gauze in a nude peach color.

Her tail was made using Angelina Film. Angelina film and I never got along too well, and it has been long while since I tried using it, now I just love it! I think it just took some time to get used to it.

I really enjoyed doing the scales on her legs and there are just so many options when doing mermaids. I undoubtedly will do a few more mermaids. Not only to fill my mermaid gallery section on my web site, but also to have fun experimenting with all the great stuff you can do with their legs and tails.

He base is fun because you can slide underneath the netting any type of sea shells or other sea type treasures. This way you can decide how you would like her display to look. I have a starfish hanging around here somewhere but couldn't locate it -- I think that would look really cute as well in the display. Some sea glass would look great also!

After creating Cinderella I was really in the mood to do another one in the same size. I really enjoy the pose-able ones and the size is just right for a beautiful display. I am also finding the costuming a lot of fun --- ahhhh, well, I also have to admit the 'girlie-girl' part of me really loves these little princess like fairies with their sparkling tiara's, luscious locks of hair, and their pretty silk and lace dresses.

It has been awhile since I have created a doll with red hair. I always seem to reach for the blondes first, then the browns. When I finished painting Kiahna's face, at that point, she told me who she was. I little Irish Fairy. So yeah! I got to use the red hair on her as it seemed so fitting to her theme and face. I am very pleased with her outfit and her red hair look so cute on her.

Look for her in my Etsy shop soon. This blog post will be updated when she is placed into my shop.
