Snakes Be Gone!!

Slithering black snakes! An an eventful two days at my house with some visitors. Big black snakes! Three all together.

To start off, a very large one, maybe 5 feet or so was in my garage. It was underneath my car hanging out on the exhaust pipe. You can see his head here.

He then dropped down and went into the corner of the garage. I was home alone and had to get help from my neighbor who was brave enough to deal with the situation. After a bit of time in garage trying to capture him, he picked him up by his tail and carried him out to the back yard into the woods.

About an hour later I glance on my patio and he is back! He slithered up to the foundation of the house and then up in to the bush. Again, I summon my neighbor to deal with him. After a bit of work he got him and, again, threw him very far into the back yard.

Close up of his head as he was pulled out of my bushes.

I went to bed feeling the problem was resolved. Much to my surprise I woke up this morning, went into garage, only to find another snake! He is different than the other one, much smaller however still pretty big. How nicely he is sleeping in the morning sun on the window sill inside my garage. I let him rest for about an hour while I figure out my plan. I am still alone and just with my daughter and realize we have to get him out. Neighbor isn't home right now.

After my daughter and I attempted some sort of braveness to get him out, we finally gave up and just decided to call the local police to deal with the situation. They arrive, and with a pole scooped him into a 4 foot high garbage pail. Would you believe he jumped out of it. He was frisky and I am glad I didn't try harder on my own to deal with him. The policeman asks me if I have something with a top/cover on it. So I go in house and manage to find a storage bin tub that has a lid. I give the tub to the policeman and he again scoops him into the tub, puts the lid on and carries him off to the back of the yard.

At this point I am hoping this is the end of it. Oh but it is not!!

About an hour or so later I a decide to just walk the perimeter of my house to check around. I start in the back of the house and walk around front. My eyes shock me as I see another, 3rd snake, on my front porch. Different from the other two. I am now starting to wonder what the heck is going on. I see my neighbor outside and call him over. By the time he came over, the darn thing disappeared in the bushes near my porch. Ewe!! He is still out there somewhere.

I hope tonight they are all gone. However, I have a creepy feeling they are still lurking around.

  1. Oh dear! I actually don't mind snakes as long as I know they aren't poisoness. That said, I wouldn't try to remove one from the garage in bare feet (is that your neighbour without shoes?).

I hope that your uninvited visitors don't come back. I think you should make a snake charmer spirit goddess doll to keep them away.

  4. hmmm ... I just read, "the snake totem is here to teach rebirth into new powers of creativity and wisdom. They are symbols of change and healing. With this totem you can expect death (transition not an actual death) and rebirth to occur in some area of your life" ...pretty intersting.

  5. EWE! Reminds me of when we moved to the farm back home when I was 8. My dad cleared the land and killed over 100 snakes but they were the poisonous copperheads and rattlers!! Atleast yours are just king snakes, a nusance but harmless and they do eat vermin so that is a plus lol. Hope there are no more surprises! Oh by the way we have a mutual friend....kim!
